Sand Channel Greens grew out of a partnership between Michael Lansdale and John Moreland that began in 1988. Since its inception, the company has focused on designing and installing sports turf drainage systems for athletic fields and golf courses. These systems are based on design concepts developed by Sir Geoffrey Davison in the 1970's. Collectively, the design concepts were known as The Cambridge System. Mr. Moreland played a key role in developing the initial concept of The Cambridge System, and was instrumental in introducing it to sports turf managers and golf course superintendents throughout the United States.

While the design of the basic system has changed very little, there have been dramatic improvements in installation technology. Early systems were installed using vibratory plows. This approach yielded functional systems with good performance characteristics, but the process itself was slow and problematic. In 1995, Mr. Lansdale revolutionized the design of the installation equipment, replacing the vibratory plows with rotary cutting blades. He also improved the mechanisms for injecting pipe and sand into the channels. By tightly integrating these two operations, they were accomplished with greater efficiency and added precision. The redesigned equipment was faster and more reliable, and yielded a superior finished product. In 1998, following additional development, Mr. Lansdale applied for a patent on the installation equipment. The patent was granted in 1999. Recent engineering efforts have focused on further improvements to equipment reliability.

Mr. Lansdale has retired from active management of the company, but is still involved in charting its direction. He is committed to maintaining the company's reputation for technical excellence and innovation. Current management is dedicated to the highest standards of customer service. This is demonstrated by their emphasis on: attention to detail, ethical business practices, and the importance of building lasting relationships. The company's long-term goal is to achieve sustained profitable growth by increasing its penetration of existing markets and continuing to develop new market opportunities.

The company's offices are located in the Monterey Bay region of central California. From this base of operations, installation teams and equipment are sent throughout the United States. While most clients are located in California and Oregon, the company has also worked in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.
